Day 2: San Salvador City Discovery

After breakfast, we set out to explore San Salvador, the vibrant heart of the country and the second-largest city in Central America. Beginning in the Historic Downtown, you’ll experience the Central Plaza, home to the National Palace, Metropolitan Cathedral, and the extraordinary El Rosario Church. This square is full of legendary architecture that enhances the energy of a city that has witnessed centuries of change and the optimism of an exciting future.

Next, we continue to the enchanting colonial town of Suchitoto, where lunch awaits as we arrive in this colorful village whose name means “Place of the Flower Bird.” We’ll stroll along its charming cobblestone streets, surrounded by pastel-colored colonial homes, blooming flowers, and sweeping views of Lake Suchitlán in the distance.

Accommodation: You’ll stay at Almedros de San Lorenzo or a comparable hotel, depending on availability. We’ll confirm your hotel before booking.

Day 3: Day in Suchitoto, Indigo Workshop

Today, we’ll dive into the fascinating world of Indigo, the sacred natural blue dye extracted from the Xiquilite plant. The Maya used it in magical and religious rituals, as medicine, in pottery, and as pigment for painting and threadwork. When the Spanish conquistadores arrived in 1524, indigo quickly became a new source of wealth, and woven indigo was as valuable as gold. To this day, Salvadoran indigo is renowned worldwide for its exceptional quality.

Together with a local artisan, you’ll discover the step-by-step process of indigo dyeing and experiment with traditional techniques to design your own hand-dyed scarf. In a magical transformation, you will be the artist dipping the fabric into the vat, watching it emerge green, then slowly turn into a deep, luminous blue as it meets the air. Then, the afternoon is yours to continue exploring the colonial charm of Suchitoto at your own pace.

Accommodation: You’ll stay at Los Almendros de San Lorenzo or a comparable hotel, depending on availability. We’ll confirm your hotel before booking.

Day 4: Mayan Archeology and Volcano Lakes

On day 4, we’ll return to the heart of the country to explore El Salvador’s Maya heritage a bit more. Our first stop is Joya de Cerén, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. This ancient farming village was buried under the ashes of the Caldera Volcano around 600 A.D., earning it the nickname “Pompeii of the Americas.” Thanks to its remarkable preservation, you’ll step into the everyday world of Mesoamerican farmers, where you can see their homes, sleeping areas, crop fields, and even ancient saunas.

From there, we continue toward the shimmering waters of Lake Coatepeque, a breathtaking volcanic crater lake nestled within Los Volcanes National Park. The afternoon is yours to relax, explore, or simply take in the peaceful beauty of this extraordinary place.

Accommodation: You’ll stay at You’ll spend the night at a serene lakefront property at Hotel Cardedeu Residence or a comparable hotel, depending on availability. We’ll confirm your hotel before booking.

Day 5: Volcanoes and Flavors

Day 5 explores Los Volcanes National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve where we will explore three legendary volcanoes: Izalco, Santa Ana, and Cerro Verde, which rise dramatically above the shimmering waters of Lake Coatepeque. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the volcanoes before continuing to the peaceful Tres Volcanes property.

For those seeking adventure, there is an optional hike to the rim of Santa Ana Volcano’s crater; a moderate trek that takes approximately 4–5 hours (up and down). At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning view of a glowing green sulfur lagoon inside the crater, along with sweeping vistas of the neighboring natural horizons of lakes and volcanoes.

After working up an appetite, we will learn how to prepare El Salvador’s beloved national dish - pupusas. A local woman arrives with fresh ingredients and teaches you the art of shaping and filling these warm corn tortillas with cheese, beans, or pork. In the afternoon, we return to Lake Coatepeque for another night and free time to relax, swim, or simply soak in the beauty.

Accommodation: You’ll stay at You’ll spend the night at a serene lakefront property at Hotel Cardedeu Residence or a comparable hotel, depending on availability. We’ll confirm your hotel before booking.

Day 6: Ruta de las Flores

After breakfast, we head out to explore the Ruta de las Flores, a scenic route through coffee plantations in the cool mountains of western El Salvador.

The route features four main towns: Nahuizalco, Juayúa, Apaneca, and Ataco. With its pleasant highland climate, you'll enjoy stunning views of mountains and volcanoes, plus local crafts, coffee tours, charming villages, markets, and adventure options.

We start with Nahuizalco, where indigenous communities and traditions still thrive, then continue to Apaneca for its peaceful mountain setting.

We'll stop for lunch at a cozy local restaurant, enjoying fresh flavors with a view.

Early afternoon brings us to the colorful town of Ataco. Wander its cobblestone streets and admire the bright houses and vibrant murals that bring the walls to life.

The afternoon and evening are free for you to explore on your own. Maybe find a hidden café, chat with artisans, or just soak in the town's relaxed vibe. What little discovery will you make?

Accommodation: You’ll stay at Casa de Graraciela or a comparable hotel, depending on availability. We’ll confirm your hotel before booking.

Day 7: Coffee and Coast

After check-out, we start the morning with an immersive visit to a local beneficio (coffee processing mill), where you'll experience firsthand how El Salvador's world-class coffee is made. Thanks to the volcanic soil and ideal altitude, the beans here produce exceptional flavor. A knowledgeable local guide will walk you through every step of the process—from cherry to bean—and we'll join a coffee cupping session to learn what professional tasters look for in gourmet coffee. Feel free to pick up fresh coffee beans or local crafts as souvenirs.

Then, we begin our scenic drive to the Pacific coast along the coastal highway, enjoying beautiful ocean views, dramatic cliffs, and the changing landscape as we head toward the sea.

We arrive at a charming boutique hotel right on the beach, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation (depending on the selected beach property).

Overnight at the beach hotel of your choice.

Day 8: Day at the Beach

After a relaxing breakfast at your beachfront hotel, the day is entirely yours to enjoy the Pacific coast at your own pace.

Depending on your selected accommodation—whether the luxurious, secluded Suite Paraíso Escondido with its private beach and stunning ocean views, the serene beachfront bungalows at Mizata Resort surrounded by tropical nature, the cliffside charm of Hotel Acantilados with panoramic sunsets, the surf-friendly vibe of Hotel Roca Sunzal right on Playa El Tunco/Sunzal, or the peaceful, eco-friendly bungalows at Hotel Tortuga Village along a tranquil stretch of sand—spend your time soaking up the sun, swimming in the warm waves, walking the shoreline, or simply unwinding with a good book by the pool or beach.

Overnight at the beach hotel of your choice.
