El Salvador may be small—just 20,000 square kilometers—but it packs in more volcanoes per square kilometer than anywhere else in the world.
We kick things off at the San Salvador Volcano. Just 25 minutes from the city, it feels like a quick escape into nature. You’ll take in El Boquerón’s massive crater, shaped by eruptions over a century ago, along with sweeping views of the city, Ilopango Lake, and the surrounding peaks.
From there, we head east to the colorful town of Alegría, tucked into the Tecapa Mountains. Here, you’ll visit Alegría Lagoon—known as the “Emerald of America”—with its unreal turquoise water.
We wrap up the day at Jiquilisco Bay, taking in the quiet beauty of nature.

Day 4: Nature, Adventure & Glamping
We begin our day in Western El Salvador at Deninger Forest, a lush reserve alive with vibrant flora and curious wildlife. Together, we’ll trek winding trails, listen to birdsong, and for those seeking adventure, try ziplining, mountain biking, or high ropes through the canopy.
Next, we head to Coatepeque Lake, a stunning turquoise volcanic caldera(a giant volcanic crater filled with water). We’ll enjoy a lakeside picnic and soak in the serene volcanic landscape as a group.
In the afternoon, we explore Volcanoes National Park, home to Izalco, Santa Ana, and Cerro Verde, marveling at panoramic views and steaming fumaroles, small vents that release gas and steam and remind us the volcanoes are still alive beneath the surface.
We wrap up our day at Tres Volcanes glamping retreat, perched at 1,800 meters. Together, we settle into cozy tents, share a forest-scented dinner, and watch the starlit sky, dreaming of the adventures still to come.

Day 4: Nature, adventure and glamping
Day 5: A day among volcanoes and tradition
Day 5: A day among volcanoes and tradition
After breakfast, lace up your boots and prepare for a breathtaking ascent to the edge of Santa Ana Volcano, the tallest and most iconic peak in El Salvador. The trail winds through lush cloud forests alive with birdsong, before opening to sweeping vistas that seem to stretch into forever.
Steam curls from the earth, mineral scents fill the air, and on clear mornings, at 2,300 meters above sea level, standing at the rim of a shimmering emerald crater lagoon we can see Coatepeque Lake below. neighboring volcanoes rising in quiet majesty, and even faint ships across the Pacific horizon.
After descending, we enjoy a hearty lunch with panoramic views of Izalco Volcano, the “Lighthouse of the Pacific.” The afternoon is ours to relax, recharge, and reflect on the day’s adventures.
As evening falls, a local cook joins us to teach the art of making pupusas—mixing, stuffing, and pressing the soft corn masa by hand. The aroma of toasted maize fills the air as we cook and laugh together, ending the day sharing the meal we created.
